From 14-Day Results to 5-Day Delivery

The Challenge

A specialty genetic testing laboratory serving 200+ clinician accounts was struggling with a 14-day turnaround time for results. The laboratory offered testing across 12 different modalities, each running on its own instrument platform with its own data format. Every time a sample moved between testing phases, data had to be manually transferred between systems.

These manual handoff points were the bottleneck. Each transfer required a technician to export data from one system, reformat it, and import it into the next. Errors at any handoff point meant results had to be re-verified, adding days to the process. Clinicians were increasingly frustrated with the delays, and some were beginning to send specimens to competing laboratories with faster turnaround.

The laboratory had explored replacing their legacy systems, but the specialized nature of genetic testing meant no single platform could handle all 12 modalities. They needed a way to connect what they had, not replace it.

Our Approach

DxLogic built a custom integration layer that connects all 12 testing modalities with automated data flow. Rather than replacing any instrument or system, the integration layer sits between them — translating data formats, validating results, and moving information between systems without human intervention.

Each handoff point that previously required manual data transfer was automated. The integration layer monitors each system for completed results, automatically extracts the data, transforms it into the format required by the next system, and pushes it through. Real-time tracking gives laboratory staff visibility into exactly where each sample is in the workflow at any moment.

On the delivery side, DxLogic built an automated results delivery pipeline that routes completed results to each clinician's preferred channel — portal, fax, or EHR integration — without requiring staff to manually generate and send reports. Results are delivered within minutes of final approval, not hours or days.

The Results

Turnaround time dropped from 14 days to 5 days — a 64% improvement. All 12 testing modalities are now connected seamlessly, and 100% of manual data handling has been eliminated. The 9-day TAT reduction was felt immediately by clinicians, who reported faster treatment decisions for their patients. The laboratory has since regained accounts that had moved to competitors and grown their clinician network by 15%.
